Harakeke Fibre Art

Whāriki are woven mats from natural fibre such as Harakeke (Phormium species) or Kiekie (Freycinetia baueriana). Traditionally, Whāriki were used as floor mats, ceremonial mats, for wall decoration or to place food on.

Whāriki presented on this page are small versions of such woven surfaces decorated with variations of traditional Māori patterns.

They are designed to be used as wall hangings.
